Ancestral Weaves & Modern Comfort

Our signature throws are more than mere blankets; they are tactile narratives woven over forty hours on traditional floor looms. We exclusively utilise ethically sourced Victorian merino and organic Belgian linen to ensure a heritage-quality drape. Each piece is designed to age with a unique patina, softening over years of use while maintaining its structural integrity and warmth.

Artisanal Dining Commissions

We collaborate with architects and homeowners to develop bespoke table linens that mirror the unique palette of their surroundings. From custom-dyed napkins to floor-length runners, our commissions celebrate the slow art of hosting. Each project begins with a material consultation to select weight and weave patterns tailored to your specific gatherings.

Seasonal Immersion

The Alchemy of Indigo Dyeing

Step into our harbour-side studio for a full-day masterclass dedicated to the ancient art of the fermented vat. You will be guided through the delicate process of waking the vat, understanding the chemical shifts required to achieve various depths of blue, and mastering shibori resist techniques. Participants leave with their own hand-dyed organic textiles and a foundational knowledge of natural pigment maintenance.

Full-Day Sessions: $295 per person

Our Craft Philosophy

01

The Fermented Vat

A true indigo vat is a living, breathing ecosystem that requires daily nourishment with mineral-rich nutrients. We carefully monitor the alkalinity and reduction levels to ensure the pigment binds permanently to the fibre, resulting in a blue that never fades, only deepens in character. This biological process is an exercise in restraint, allowing the bacteria to dictate the pace of production.

02

Architectural Warp

Setting the loom is a feat of precision that can take up to three days before a single inch of cloth is woven. Hundreds of individual threads are meticulously threaded through heddles to establish the structural foundation of the textile. This tension-based architecture defines the density and drape of the final piece, ensuring it remains stable through decades of wash and wear.

03

Rhythmic Weft

The weaving itself is a rhythmic dialogue between the artisan and the machine. Each pass of the wooden shuttle carries the 'weft' thread across the warp, interlocking to create the finished fabric. By varying the force of the beat, we introduce subtle, intentional irregularities that distinguish hand-loomed cloth from the sterile uniformity of industrial manufacturing.

Frequent Enquiries

What is the typical timeline for a custom commission? expand_more

Bespoke projects generally require 6 to 10 weeks from initial consultation to delivery. This allows for yarn sourcing, custom dye-lot testing, and the intensive weaving process itself. We will provide a specific production schedule once your design is finalised.

What materials are provided during Quayside Loom? expand_more

We provide everything necessary: organic linen samples, raw cotton for testing, all dyeing equipment, and a seasonal vegetarian lunch. Participants are also welcome to bring one small personal item made of natural fibres (cotton, linen, or silk) to dip in the vat.

How do I care for a hand-woven indigo throw? expand_more

Indigo is exceptionally lightfast but can be sensitive to harsh detergents. We recommend a gentle hand wash in cool water with pH-neutral soap. Always dry away from direct sunlight to preserve the integrity of the natural fibres and the depth of the indigo.

Do you ship internationally? expand_more

Yes, we organise secure global shipping for all our collections. International orders are carbon-offset and include tracking. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on weight and destination.
